Here in this temple the statue can be seen in three postures, standing, sitting and sleeping or relaxing.
At a distance of 3 km from Cheranmahadevi Railway Station and 22 km from Tirunelveli, Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple is an ancient temple. It is architecturally beautiful and has so many excellent sculptures. The site is a centrally protected monument under the control of Archaeological Survey of India since 1921. It can be considered as one of the best heritage sites in Tamil Nadu state.Bhaktavatsala Perumal temple is located in the outskirts of Cheranmahadevi amidst paddy fields on the bank of Thamirabarani River. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple was built by Pandiyas in the 12th century AD. The temple contains late Chola and Pandiya inscriptions. Out of the 108 divya desams, it lies in the 17th place.
Besides Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple, Cheranmahadevi is also famous for Sri Ammanatha Swamy temple, one of the Nava Kailasam temples. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is one of the most sought Lord Shiva temples in Tirunelveli district. This is the 2nd Nava Kailasam temple which is dedicated to the God Chandran (Planet Moon). Special pujas are conducted on the day of Shivaratri at this temple with great devotion and dedication.
Main Deity here is Sri Adi Narayana Perumal with Sridevi and Bhoodevi in standing posture.
The main Gopuram is of three stories and two prakrams. Vimanam to the main sanctum is known as Ashtanga Vimanam. Brugu Muni and Markandeya had darshan of Lord Siva and were blessed by him.
Other deities seen in the temple are Sri Lakshmi Narashimar, Krishnar, Sri Ramar, Anjaneyar, Manavala Mamunigal, and twelve Azwars.
Also Urchava Vigraharam of Sri Adi Narayanar and Chakkratazwar are present.
